Vladimiro Gioia –New/Luxury/Brave

Today was a long awaited day; we all finally got to meet Vladimiro Gioia. We were supposed to meet him last week but due to a last minute change of plans, today was the day. Vladimiro Gioia is an Italian designer that we will be working with over the course of the month. When I first met Vladimiro this morning, I was a little thrown off by his appearance. I was expecting a man in a tailored suit with a tie, leather shoes and slicked back hair. Instead Vladimiro’s appearance was very down to earth. He was wearing a white button down with jeans and converse sneakers. It was a pleasant surprise to find that we was so laid back and made me feel more comfortable to ask him the questions that I had prepared.
During most of our visit, we got to talk with Vladimiro to learn more about his brand. He designs luxury clothing for women in their thirties. I found it very intriguing that he only uses natural fabrics and only produces his clothing in Italy. One fact that he shared with us that I found very intriguing was that he starts a collection with two colors. The rest of the collection then grows off of those two original colors. He explained to us that he doesn’t follow trends but designs based off of his internal gut feeling. From the short time we were able to spend with him I immediately developed a strong level of respect for the fashion that he creates. He is very confident in what he designs and is constantly walking against the flow of the industry to take innovation to a new level. The idea of pushing the limits and trying things that others are too afraid to try was very inspiring and refreshing to hear.

About two months before we left for Italy we were given the assignment to design shopping and garment bags for Vladimiro.  Towards the end of our visit, Vladimiro and Maria Chiara Arona announced the shopping bag and garment bag designs that they were going to chose. The winning design will be put into production and will feature the name of the creator on the bag. My heart started to race as I quickly realized it was my garment bag design that he had chosen!! I couldn’t be more excited to have my design chosen!! It is a great honor and I was shaking for about 20 minutes afterward! This was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I cannot wait to see my design brought to life. I am so happy that he liked what I created for him! I look forward to working with Vladimiro over the course of the month and I can’t wait to see what project we get to work on next!
Tomorrow we leave for Florence for four days!!
