Art vs. Fashion - Galleria D’arte Moderna di Milano

-Ceiling in the Galleria D’arte Moderna di Milano
Issey Miyake Fall/Winter 2011

Artifact:
The ceiling shown above was located in the Scalone room in the Galleria D’arte Moderna di Milano. The Villa Reale, the building in which the museum is located, was made between 1790 and 1796 by Austrian architect Leopoldo Pollack. The building was originally commissioned for Giuseppe Piermarini and was later the residence of Count Lodovico of Belgiojoso. It was transformed in 1921 to Milan’s collections of Modern Art.
Fashion:
The garment shown above is from Issey Miyake’s Fall/Winter 2011 collection. Issey Miyake’s philosophy is to focus both on the importance of imagination along with the development of new technology. Their team values are unconventional thinking and innovation. The collection was undoubtedly inspired by geometric shapes.
Art vs Fashion:
The geometric design that was shown on the ceiling of the Museum is very similar to the pattern and shapes of the garment above. Both utilize rectangles and triangles that are bordered/outlined with a different color.
