Artifact:
The window shown above was located on the front of the Cathedral of Como. The architects that created the Cathedral of Como were Pietro da Breggia and Florio da Bonta. The construction began in 1396 on the ancient Romanesque basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. Contrary to the start date the cathedral wasn’t finished until 1740.
Fashion:
Naeem Khan’s (the designer of the jacket shown above) inspiration for the Fall/Winter 2011 came from his goal to “redefine the glamour of the cosmopolitan woman”. The collection that this garment belonged to included delicate bead work, feathers, and luxurious textiles that Naeem used to help him reach his goal.
Art vs Fashion:
The circular shape of the window on the cathedral was the frame to the intricate pattern that made up the decorative window. This same shape was duplicated on the back of the jacket that was shown in Naeem Khan’s F/W 2011 collection.
