Pink & Chic/Fashion Illustrated

This morning we met at the NABA campus for class. There we got assigned our groups and projects for the remainder of the month. A lot of my questions were answered and I am looking forward to working with my team the “Esploratori Innovative’s”!
This afternoon was the experience I have been waiting for. We were finally able to meet Maria Chiara Arona from Pink & Chic Communication and Fulvio Aniello and Elise Lefort from fashiontimes.it. I enjoyed being able to put a face to the people we have been talking about for so long. Within the first five minutes of being in Maria’s office, Fulvio and Elise started interviewing us. My stomach immediately dropped and my mind stared racing to come up with what I wanted to say. But once the camera was on me all the anxiety melted away and to be honest I can’t even remember most of what I said.
I was very impressed with Maria, her English was very impressive, and she held strong against 22 eager students firing off questions at her. She did her best to answer all of our questions to the best of her ability. It was intriguing to find out more about why she started her own business, what she enjoys best about what she does, and what she was hoping to learn to get out of the experience of us being there. She decided to own her own business because she said that she doesn’t like other people telling her what to do which I’ve heard many other entrepreneurs say that in the past. That response made me realize that Italians are just like us in many ways and many people share that same entrepreneurial passion all across the world. When one of my classmates asked what she liked best about her job, Maria answered that she loved organizing fashion shows. Her reasoning was that she knows how much work goes into the organization of the show and she finds great joy in what she has accomplished after it is over. I found that response very relatable because this spring I choreographed and helped organize a fashion show. The best feeling was the sense of accomplishment that came after the show ran smoothly and all my hard work had paid off.  Lastly, when I asked her what she was hoping to learn and take away from us being here she responded with improving her English and to get our feedback and opinions of her country. I found this interesting because I can’t imagine anyone not absolutely loving Italy!
Tonight we were presently surprised with an invitation from Maria to join her at the Fashion Illustrated Cocktail Hour. Upon our arrival we were taken into the fashion library where there was an archive of close to every fashion magazine, trend book, and fashion related artifacts you could think of.  When we walked into the library my heart stopped as I stared at hundreds of volumes of Vogue lining the shelves in front of me. The tour guide later informed us that fashion industry professionals from numerous well known companies use their facilities for inspiration regularly.  It was truly a once and a lifetime experience and I couldn’t be more thankful to Maria for extending all of us an invitation.
